Review practice
Writing better coaching notes
Learn how to capture what happened, why it mattered, and what should happen next.
Capture the moment
Start with the specific moment that prompted the observation. A useful note stays connected to the footage so anyone on staff can return to the same evidence later.
Write enough context for another coach to understand what they are seeing without needing the original meeting or conversation.
Explain why it matters
Describe the pattern, decision, or behavior that made the moment meaningful. This turns a description of what happened into coaching knowledge the team can use.
Make the next step clear
End with what should happen next: a player conversation, a training priority, a question to revisit, or another example to find.
